Pre-Transfer Advising FAQs

If you want the best experience for your pre-transfer appointment, please read through our FAQs.

How to Prepare for your Appointment:

To receive an estimated credit evaluation, please attach your unofficial transcripts when you schedule your appointment or email them to transfercenter@charlotte.edu at least two business days before your appointment.

An unofficial transcript is a copy of your academic record that shows your completed courses and grades. It can usually be downloaded from your student portal and doesn’t require a formal request or official seal.

What can I expect in my appointment, and how should I prepare?

Students who provide their unofficial transcripts can expect to receive a general education and pre-major credit estimation, as well as a review of University and major admissions requirements, plus course recommendations to complete prior to transferring to Charlotte.

How do I know which type of student I am?

49er Next: Special admission program with specific NC community colleges

First Year / Early College: students who have not enrolled at a college/university after graduating high school. Many first-year students have college credits, but these were taken while the student was still in high school

Transfer Student: students who have enrolled at a college/university after graduating from high school

Second Degree: students who have already earned a Bachelor’s degree and are now pursuing a second Bachelor’s degree

Will I be able to receive an exact graduation timeline?

Since our team focuses on general education and pre-major requirements, we are not able to provide an exact graduation timeline for prospective students, as many factors impact degree completion. Many majors provide a plan of study that prospective students can review for a best guess for future courses.

Can I make an appointment even if I don’t provide my unofficial transcripts?

Yes – however, our team will only be able to provide general information in your appointment unless we receive your unofficial transcripts at least two business days prior to your session.

If you wish to receive a credit estimation, want to know how your credits will transfer in, or understand which courses you should take in an upcoming semester prior to transfer, please provide your transcripts when making an appointment.

Can I get pre-transfer advising if I’ve already been accepted into UNC Charlotte?

Our team is happy to help students who have been accepted into Charlotte but have not yet made the decision to enroll with a better understanding of their transfer credits.

If you have already submitted your intent to enroll and need to meet with an Advisor to register for classes, you’ll need to follow the Next Steps through New Student Orientation. Our team is not able to remove advising holds.

Are there students who should not meet with you?

Our team meets with students who are transferring to Charlotte for the first time to complete undergraduate degrees. We are not the best resource for the following students:

Graduate students – the Graduate Admissions Office offers a variety of information sessions and support for graduate program questions

Students interested in readmitting to Charlotte – the OASES team is ready to help you with all of your re-admission questions. You can reach them at oases@charlotte.edu or visit 49er Finish for additional support

Transient Study or Visiting Students – Charlotte students needing transient study support, please connect with your Academic Advisor or visit Niner Central for additional instructions. If you wish to enroll at Charlotte as a Visiting student, please contact Admissions or follow the Visiting Student admissions steps.

Can I meet with you if I am still in high school, but taking college courses as a dual-enrollment student?

Our team is happy to meet with first-year applicants who have college credits regarding how your credits will transfer in, which community college courses are preferred for certain majors, and explain additional requirements for certain majors. For questions regarding first-year admissions policies and application steps, please connect with the Admissions team.
