Building Community and Connection for transfer success at Charlotte!

– Fall 2025 –

This course is designed to connect first-semester transfer students to the Charlotte campus community, introduce academic support programs and career planning, and encourage students to create academic capital to serve them during their academic journey and after graduation!

The goal of this course is to connect new transfer students with the community and acclimate to campus before classes begin to help them thrive as a Niner. Through mentorship, presentation, and reflection, students will be able to explore the campus, create community, and get acclimated to campus life.

  • Campus learning management systems (Canvas)
  • Advising & support systems (Connect/Navigate)
  • Learn your way around campus
  • Academic planning
  • Academic support resources
  • Community building
  • Self-reflection
  • Activities include: Area 49 – Atkins Library Makerspace, Venture team building, and much more!

Transfer FIT Course Details:

  • Transfer FIT is an immersive 1-credit hour experience. Students must register for the FIT experience course when registering for classes.
    • UCOL 1210-1 – FIT Experience for Transfer Students (1 credit hour)
  • The experience and its commitments occur during the week prior to the start of the fall semester, giving students an opportunity to spend time on campus a week early, experiencing and exploring campus through course assignments, team building and community building social events. The second portion of the course begins on the first day of the fall semester and wraps up after the first half of the semester.
  • Students with a housing assignment from Residence Life can move in early!
    • Application for FIT must be submitted before July 15th to be eligible to move in early.
    • Note: You do not need to be living on campus to participate in Transfer FIT!

  • August 9th – 16th will consist of full days of presentations, community-building activities, and class time. Students must attend events on all days. Some events will be evening community building events.
  • After October 8th you will only have your other fall course commitments.

* You can reschedule your Orientation if you want to do FIT! Just change the date in your Future Forty Niner portal.
– I would like to meet other transfer students.– I would prefer not to be on campus after business hours.
– I want to grow and be better prepared for my Charlotte experience through this 1 credit hour experience.– Remember* This is a big time commitment! This is all organized and orchestrated to help you. It is also for course credit so consider things carefully.
